Metrology Technician (2nd Shift)

Job responsibilities

• Operate CNC and manual CMMs and optical measurement systems to perform dimensional inspections of machined, molded, and assembled parts per established inspection plans.
• Load, run, and monitor existing CMM and optical inspection programs; fixture and align parts correctly for each routine.
• Use metrology hand tools (calipers, micrometers, height gages, pin gages, thread gages) for quick checks and receiving inspections.
• Learn to operate a Faro portable arm with 3D laser scanner for large-assembly and complex-geometry inspections under the guidance of senior staff.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, including basic GD&T callouts, to understand what features to measure and the applicable tolerances.
• Record measurement results accurately and completely in inspection reports and data systems.
• Flag out-of-tolerance conditions and escalate to senior technicians or quality engineers for disposition.
• Perform daily startup checks and basic maintenance on CMM and optical equipment; keep the metrology lab clean, organized, and audit-ready.

Job requirements

• High school diploma or GED; technical coursework, vocational training, or an Associate's degree in a related field is a plus.
• Up to 2 years of experience operating a CMM or performing dimensional inspection (internships, co-ops, and school lab time count).
• Basic familiarity with metrology hand tools (calipers, micrometers, gages).
• Ability to read engineering drawings and understand basic dimensional tolerances.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical, quality-first mindset.
• Willingness to learn new equipment and software in a hands-on environment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
• Exposure to CMM or optical measurement software such as PolyWorks, PC-DMIS, Calypso, or OGP Zone3.
