Muse leads early consumer downloads

Meta’s Muse app, a personal AI agent, overtook ChatGPT as the leading free app on the U.S. iOS store on Friday, CNBC reported. Sensor Tower counted 730,000 downloads in roughly the first five days after the September 8 release.

By Monday the firm put lifetime downloads above 2.5 million: about 1.5 million on iOS and 1.1 million on Android. Over the same 13-day window after launch, Muse’s downloads were ahead of Claude (400,000) and Grok (200,000). ChatGPT still drew 3.1 million downloads in that span. Sensor Tower said staggered Apple and Google releases change how those totals line up.

CNBC said Muse runs on Meta’s Muse Spark models. Subscriptions are $20 or $100 a month depending on usage. Amazon has blocked the app from its shopping site, citing privacy and security risks. A spokesperson told CNBC that third-party apps offering to buy from other businesses should operate openly and respect a service’s choice to participate. Shopify is working with Meta on Muse access for agent checkout.

Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon told CNBC that most agentic uses so far have not been for ordinary people, and that Muse and similar apps are the first sign of broader adoption.
