XPENG’s Iron humanoid walks off its new production line
The EV maker says the robot walked itself off a line that is more than 80% automated, with mass production targeted for year-end and deliveries in 2027.
XPENG says a newly assembled Iron humanoid walked off the company’s new production line under its own control, Engadget reported. Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng marked the moment by handing the robot a staff badge.

In a September 7 announcement, XPENG said more than 80% of the line’s core processes are automated, and that it is borrowing quality systems from its car business to keep robots consistent as output grows. The company did not share the line’s current output, and mass production remains a year-end target.
Iron has 76 degrees of freedom across its body and 21 in each hand. Three of XPENG’s Turing AI chips supply up to 2,250 trillion operations per second, which the company says lets the robot run its AI model onboard without a remote operator.
The first jobs will be in XPENG’s own stores and campuses, including reception, guided tours and sales help. Deliveries in China and overseas are planned for 2027. No price or U.S. availability was announced.
