Environmental Regulatory Engineer

Job description

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

Job responsibilities

  • Lead the acquisition of federal environmental permits
  • Lead environmental field work for assigned projects, including due diligence, delineations, habitat assessments, and threatened and endangered species surveys
  • Use GIS to capture field conditions and communicate constraints to design, construction, and leadership
  • Help design and construction engineers keep the work compliant as plans change and offer practical options when a plan conflicts with a constraint
  • Guide construction crews in the field so work stays within environmental limits
  • Partner with EHS where stormwater, spills, waste, and site controls meet natural-resource and permit requirements
  • Maintain productive relationships with external regulatory agencies (e.g., EPA, state environmental departments, local authorities) on permitting matters
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Facilities, Civil, EHS, legal, engineering, and operations teams, to identify permitting needs and integrate them into project timelines

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2+ years in environmental due diligence, natural resources, or construction-phase compliance
  • Experience with delineations, habitat assessments, or threatened and endangered species surveys
  • Experience working with design teams, construction teams, or both, on active projects
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in environmental science, ecology, biology, environmental engineering, natural resources, or a related field
  • Working proficiency with GIS
  • Demonstrated judgment in the field: able to adapt when plans change and to act when something is going wrong
  • Experience coordinating with federal, state, or local environmental regulators
