Manufacturing Test Engineer, Software/Electrical

Job description

Dive-XL is Anduril's extra-large autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), built for ultra-long range and large modular payloads. It is the vehicle behind Ghost Shark, which we build in Sydney for the Royal Australian Navy. We are now setting up the first U.S. Dive-XL production line at our 150,000 square foot campus in Quonset Point, Rhode Island. Designs and manufacturing BOMs live in Siemens NX and Teamcenter. Routings and digital work instructions live in ArsenalOS, our in-house MES, and materials and orders run through Oracle ERP.

This is a manufacturing test role for an electrical engineer who writes code, focused on full-vehicle testing.

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company…

Job responsibilities

  • Run full-vehicle dry FAT and wet FAT in our test tank as test conductor, working through each procedure with the technicians on the floor
  • Become the subject-matter expert on the vehicle's electrical and software checks, such as power sequencing and isolation, device power draw, device and network communications, navigation alignment and data logging
  • Validate the operator control stations that run the vehicle, on their own and connected to the vehicle
  • Bring each vehicle to its test configuration before FAT: load the software build under test and confirm every device's firmware and settings match the release
  • Own what gets tested and where: decide which tests add value and which repeat earlier checks, and cut test time while still proving the product requirements
  • Push tests upstream so problems are caught at the smallest assembly possible instead of at FAT, and give the product definition team design-for-test (DFT) feedback
  • Triage every failed test step as a real defect, a procedure that no longer matches the as-built vehicle, a test-setup limit or a missing upstream step, and send it to the right owner
  • Troubleshoot electrical and software failures using vehicle telemetry and logs, and lead data-driven root cause using structured problem solving

Job requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of relevant experience, ideally designing tests for electromechanical hardware in a manufacturing environment
  • Hardware testing and automated test systems
  • Programming in Python, MATLAB, shell or similar
  • Communication protocols such as USB, Ethernet, RS-232, RS-485, PCIe, HDMI and CAN
  • Bench equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs and programmable power supplies
  • Manufacturing test limits and the common failure modes that manufacturing introduces
  • Complex electromechanical systems, and what it takes to make them work reliably
