Terafab is a semiconductor manufacturing project from Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. Its stated aim is to combine logic, memory, and advanced packaging under one roof and close the gap between today's chip production and future demand.
In August 2026, Tesla and SpaceX confirmed the main site in Grimes County, Texas, near Gibbons Creek Reservoir east of College Station. The first phase is about $16.8 billion, the finished site is planned at more than 100 million square feet, and at least 3,000 jobs are expected. A research fab, the precursor to Terafab, broke ground in April 2026 on the North Campus of Giga Texas in Austin.
The chips are meant for Tesla's Optimus humanoid robots and self-driving vehicles, and for SpaceX's planned space-based data centers.
