Sr. Construction Safety Engineer

Job description

As part of the SpaceX EHS Team, you will provide timely, clear, and high-quality technical expertise and assist in implementation of all environmental, health and safety programs for the construction of Starbase's Starship and site development infrastructure . The ideal candidate is highly skilled with both environmental and occupational safety fields, hands-on, and works well in a fast-paced environment. We work as a highly integrated team and job responsibilities will include helping other programs to ensure the overall success of SpaceX.

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not.

Job responsibilities

  • Lead daily safety engagements with employees and contractors to drive safe operations across the site
  • Create, review and approve Purchase Orders and manage the operational budget for construction safety programs
  • Develop practical solutions that improve construction site safety, reduce incident rates, drive contractor engagement, and advance the overall EHS program
  • Investigate mishaps and develop sustainable improvement plans to reduce risk
  • Ensure EHS policies, practices, and procedures are understood and consistently followed by project teams, clients, and contractors
  • Collaborate with internal project teams and contractors to foster a strong safety culture that focuses on preventing serious incidents
  • Review and interpret new and proposed safety laws and regulations (with emphasis on construction-related requirements) and provide clear guidance to management

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in the design, development, and operational oversight of environmental, health, and safety programs with an emphasis on construction safety operations
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management, or related field (emphasis in Construction Safety preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience, preferably in construction safety
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and communication skills with a clear aptitude and desire to influence people
  • Hands-on experience leading multi-site or multi-contractor construction safety programs in high-risk or complex environments
  • Able to review as-built drawings, assess safety-in-design opportunities, and lead technical risk engineering solutions in the design-build environment
  • Strong knowledge and experience interpreting, applying, and documenting federal, state, and local construction safety regulations
